Since joining Life Skills Victoria Inc (LSV Inc) Kathryn feels she has come ‘out of her shell’ and is more confident and independent. When she started at LSV Inc Kathryn lived with her sister but now lives independently in her own unit. Kathryn said:
"I joined because the other day service wasn’t meeting my needs, not making me as an adult. My sister heard about MLS (now LSV Inc) when she used to do personal care work and she said, what about coming here? So we met with Carole the CEO never looked back."
Kathryn has successfully completed two accredited courses one in work education that enabled her to secure part-time paid employment. Kathryn is a strong self-advocate. She played a very active role in a campaign to lobby for a safe crossing on High Street in Moe. Kathryn worked closely with Latrobe City Councillor Ms Sharon Gibson, and other self-advocates until a safety refuge was successfully funded and constructed. Kathryn is an active member of the community, and she enjoys volunteering at local football clubs. She is also a member of the Curtains for Certain drama group and has helped to both produce and perform in an annual production at the Moe Town Hall.
Of Life Skills Victoria Inc, Kathryn said:
“They look at people’s needs and wants and work from that, and make them [clients] look at it and make them work for it and make them achieve it”.
